I’m here for the people.
No, I’m actually here for a Public Relations course I am currently taking at Missouri State University. My name is Nikki Bailey and I’m in my senior year at this University. I am double majoring in Communication and English Literature. I am also the cliché small town girl who moved to a bigger city for freedom and culture, if you can count Springfield, Missouri as a “big city”. Anyways, that’s all there is about me because this blog will be about something other than that. This blog will be one filled with writing about subjects pertaining to those I am focusing on in my Public Relation course.
As someone who plans to have a career in helping to represent or be a part of a business, I understand that Public Relations and Communication is important. It’s a new era, one in which a businesses’ representation could crumble in a matter of seconds with something as miniscule as a wayward tweet.

I understand the power of social media. The relationship between consumer and producer has never been closer. It has also never been easier to obtain free advertising as it is now. That free advertising currently comes at more of a risk than it ever had before. Public opinion can be swayed and is voiced over many social media platforms. The key is to get your message out in an effective and normally positive manner.
The problem lies in the fact that many are unsure of how certain things will go over with the public. If something is written wrong or an image is taken to mean something other than what a company had intended, it can be damaging. That’s why I am taking this course and others like it. I want to know how to use Social Media in a professional and positive way for employers.
